01Short answer

Leukaemia in Türkiye is treated mainly in three kinds of institution: 1) university hospitals, for example Hacettepe and Ankara University in Ankara, Istanbul University’s Istanbul and Cerrahpaşa medical faculties in Istanbul, and Ege University in Izmir; 2) Ministry of Health training-and-research and city hospitals, for example Ankara Bilkent City Hospital and Istanbul’s Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital; 3) private hospital groups, for example Acıbadem, Memorial and Medical Park. Many hospitals have an international patient unit. Key criteria: haematology experience, a transplant unit, intensive care and an SGK contract.

02Simple explanation

University hospitals: wide experience.

City hospitals: large Ministry centres.

Private groups: international units.

03Scientific explanation

Accreditation: the international quality standard for transplant units is EBMT/JACIE accreditation; you can ask a centre about it.

Health tourism: the Ministry of Health’s HealthTürkiye portal informs foreign patients about authorised facilities.
