Editorial policy
How our articles are written, which sources they rely on and how they are reviewed.
Who we write for
Our articles are for people who have just been told they have leukemia, for their families and for caregivers. Our job is to explain complex medical information calmly and in plain language, without losing scientific accuracy.
How articles are written
Every topic follows the same template: short answer, simple explanation, scientific explanation, “What happens in the body?”, key terms, key points, frequently asked questions and sources. Texts are prepared in Azerbaijani, Russian and English, and the three versions are checked against each other for meaning.
Sources
We use only recognised, reputable sources:
- the US National Cancer Institute (NCI), the American Cancer Society (ACS), MedlinePlus, the CDC and the World Health Organization (WHO);
- the UK National Health Service (NHS), Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support and Blood Cancer UK;
- material from the American Society of Hematology (ASH), NCCN and other professional organisations;
- peer-reviewed journals (for example Blood, Leukemia and the Journal of Clinical Oncology) and clinical guidelines.
Every article ends with links to the sources used. Forums, sites that sell products and unverified claims are not used as sources.
Our principles
- no miracle promises — no food, herb or supplement cures leukemia;
- no personal treatment advice and no doses — these are for you and your doctor;
- medicines are referred to by their generic names;
- statistics are explained with context and care;
- where the science is uncertain, we say so plainly.
Medical review
The content is based on reputable medical sources listed under each article, does not replace a doctor, and the editors welcome review and corrections from practising clinicians through the Contact page.
Updates and corrections
Articles are reviewed regularly; when we make a significant change, the “Last updated” date on the page changes. If you spot an error, write to us at cafarofkamal@gmail.com — we will check it and correct it.
Independence and advertising
Advertisers, sponsors and pharmaceutical companies have no influence on editorial decisions. We do not present paid content as articles. Where advertising is shown, it is clearly separated from the content.
Illustrations
Images are schematic educational illustrations made for this site. They are not to scale and are not photographs of real patients.
